Definitions of Clarity Grades according to Internal Defects in Accordance with the IDC Rules of May. 1979

Loupe clean A diamond is termed loupe clean when an experienced expert finds no internal defects with an aplanatic and achromatic 10 x loupe. This means that the diamond does not contain any internal defects which are more discernible than a dot-like inclusion with a size of five micron and satisfactory brightness.

Very, very small internal defects which can be discerned by an experienced expert with a 10 x loupe only with
degrees of difficulty ranging from very considerable to great.
Size, position and number of the internal defects determine the distinction between WS1 and WS2.

Very small internal detects which can be discerned by the experienced expert with degrees of difficulty ranging from not too difficult to easy.
Size, position and number of the internal defects determine the distinction between VS1 and VS2.
SI: SI1

Small internal defects which are very easy for. the experienced expert to discern with a 10 x loupe.
Size, position and number of the internal defects determine the distinction between SI 1 and SI 2.
P1 Internal defects which are difficult for the experienced expert to discern with the naked eye in an examination through the crown.
P2 Large and/or numerous internal defects which are easily discernible by the experienced expert with the naked eye and which slightly diminish brilliance.
P3 large and/or numerous internal defects which are very easily discernible by the experienced expert with the naked eye and which diminish brilliance.
