Instruments for the Approximate Estimation of Weights of Brilliants

Diamond Gauge

This is a stencil type gauge with punched-out holes for measuring brilliants of weight 0.01 to 6.00 ct. The carat weight is engraved adjacent to the openings. The gauge is applicable for very well cut brilliants. For flat or high stones 5 to 10 % of the given weight should be added or subtracted (Fig 391 ).
